Mammoth Cave National Park- May 2021

 Spoiler Alert: It's a Cave

Mammoth National Park is a huge cave system located in southwest Kentucky with numerous trails and 'rooms' within the cave, but also beautiful, lush, green trails outside on the grounds of the park. We went during Covid times, so a lot of the cave system was blocked off. You do have to reserve your cave tour on the NPS site, so be sure to do that before you go. We took an unguided tour around the cave, and there were numerous rangers around to give information about the significance of the parts of the cave. It really is mammoth in size with lots of points of interest. We spent a couple of hours in the cave, then headed to Louisville, KY for burgers and bourbon, which was about an hour and a half away.

The next morning, we went on a horseback ride through the trails on the National Park grounds with Double J Stables. It was a gorgeous ride and the horses were so sweet and (mostly) cooperative. The wildflowers in the pasture and being surrounded by the overwhelmingly vibrant green forest was so beautiful. It was a really fun way to explore the park. My horse for the day, Morgan, was a little bit of a stubborn sass monster, but we got along because so am I.
